Occupational Therapist – Functional Assessments

About the Role

Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist looking for a meaningful and rewarding role where your assessment skills can make a genuine impact?

We are seeking a passionate and motivated OT to join our experienced and supportive team, working primarily with autistic adults and individuals with complex support needs. This is an exciting opportunity for a clinician who enjoys assessment work, values neuro-affirming practice, and wants to deepen their expertise in functional and environmental assessments.

This role focuses predominantly on completing comprehensive functional needs assessments for adults with autism and complex support needs. You will work closely with clients, families, and support networks to understand individual strengths, support requirements, and recommendations that enhance quality of life and independence.

You’ll be joining a collaborative and highly experienced team with extensive expertise in autism, complex presentations, and functional assessment processes. Ongoing training, mentoring, and professional development are a key part of this role, making it an excellent opportunity for someone wanting to further develop specialist skills in this area.

As strong collaboration and workplace culture are central to achieving our goals, this is a fully site-based, in-person role, working across our office and designated sites.

In this role you will be supported to:

  • Confidently conduct functional needs assessments for adults with autism and complex support needs
  • Collaborate with experienced occupational therapists, speech pathologists, psychologists and positive behaviour support practitioners
  • Enjoy working alongside clients, families and support teams
  • Write high-quality, evidence-based reports and recommendations that influence funding outcomes for clients
  • Apply neuro-affirming and person-centred practice approaches
  • Contribute to meaningful outcomes that improve access to supports and services
  • Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and professional development
  • This role will also have flexibility for OTs interested in holding a caseload alongside the assessment work

About You

  • A qualified Occupational Therapist with current registration
  • Experience working with autistic individuals and/or people with complex support needs
  • Strong clinical reasoning and assessment skills
  • Excellent written communication and report-writing abilities
  • A compassionate, collaborative, and strengths-based approach
  • Interest in developing expertise in functional needs assessments and autism practice

To join our team you will

  • Work alongside a knowledgeable and supportive multidisciplinary team
  • Receive specialised training in autism, functional needs assessments and environmental assessments
  • Be part of a values-driven, neuro-affirming practice
  • Enjoy a role with variety, autonomy, and meaningful clinical work
  • Make a real difference in the lives of autistic adults and their families
  • Opportunities for ongoing professional growth and development

If you are passionate about assessments, enjoy complex and rewarding clinical work, and want to be part of a team making a genuine impact, we would love to hear from you.
